About vom Schloss Billimack Working Dogs

About Us

Vom Schloss Billimack Working Dogs focuses on protecting and preserving the working heritage of German Shepherd Dogs and Belgian Malinois through world class training, proofing via IGP competitions (formerly known as Schutzhund/IPO), and the occasional selective litter.  We focus on working dogs with the drive and temperament which allows them to excel not only as sport, police K9, and search and rescue dogs but also as trustworthy family members.

Over a hundred years ago, Max von Stephanitz urged that “the breeding of shepherd dogs is the breeding of working dogs; and this must always be the aim, or we shall cease to produce shepherd dogs.”  While many show dog enthusiasts focus primarily on structure, we agree with Max von Stephanitz, the founder of the German Shepherd, that “utility is the true criterion of beauty.”  Our dogs must have proper structure to work, but excellent working dogs must also have the intelligence and drives to succeed.  This is true of all working dogs, whether they are herding dogs, terriers, pointers,  hounds or retrieversAs modernist architect Louis Sullivan noted, “form follows function,” and we believe the same is true of working dogs.

A few years ago, Steve also started training two versatile hunting dog, an Epagneul Breton (French Brittany) and Pudelpointer, for upland hunting and UKC testing, and for the challenge of working another variety of working dog.

Our Dogs in Training

IGP/American Schutzhund/Detection Dogs in Training

Danger vom Kullberg (BH, WB, IGP1 (99-95-99=293 ) HD-Normal, ED-Normal, LUW0, ZW81 – German Shepherd

Danger was imported from Germany for breeding and the sport of IGP. Gaia von der Staatsmacht (BH) HD-Normal, ED-Normal – German Shepherd

Steve co-owned Gaia when a puppy and later welcomed her to his breeding program, given her excellent temperament and working ability on and off the IGP field (Robby von der Staatsmacht x Boila von der Staatsmacht, 2-4 Quardes von der Staatsmacht).  Gaia will be titled and used selectively for breeding – mostly for detection, IGP and active family homes.

Versatile Hunting Dogs in Training:

Flatlander’s Muddy Waters – Pudelpointer

Steve selected Muddy as puppy from Flatlander Kennels in Illinois with the goal of testing in the NAVHDA system and hunting adventures in the future (Ripsnorter’s Fast Cash x North Santiam’s Dakota Dreamin)

Stephens Tate – Epagneul Breton (French Brittany)

In 2024, Tate joined our home from Stephens Kennels in Alabama at two years old as a versatile hunting dog for the field and testing in UKC and NAVHDA (FC AFC Nalko Des Sentiers du Ramier II x N’Vernette De L’Etoile Du Nord).

Puppies and Started Dogs

At this time, we have neither a litter planned nor started dogs available. However, let us know your needs and we would be happy to make a referral. We know many excellent breeders and competitors in the US and Europe.

(Sold) Froman vom Wolfsdreieck (Abe) – German Shepherd Dog

Steve imported Abe as a puppy from Germany in 2022.  After well-rounded early training, Abe was sold to be a family companion and protector for an active family, given his excellent temperament and environmentals with people and animals.

(Sold) Zovina Energy (Zoe) – Belgian Malinois

Zoe joined our kennel as a puppy for foundation IGP training.  A driven tracking dog with excellent hunt, nerves and openness, Steve determined Zoe’s natural gifts favored detection over IGP.  Zoe was sold to a top detection trainer in VA and is now a detection/patrol dog with the Maryland State Police.

Retired Dogs

Girome von Schloss Berge (G-man) – 2017 USA Team Member to WUSV in Tilburg Netherlands, IPO3, AD

G-Man was Steve’s most successful competition dog.  Since he was a puppy, G-Man showed extreme drive and power as well as excellent temperament at home and around town. G-Man was a 2017 USA Team member to the WUSV in Tilberg Netherlands, placed 3rd at the 2016 USCA German Shepherd IPO National Championships (96-96 in the stadium), and 8th at the 2017 Nationals. He is the embodiment of the all-around working dog we strive to train and promote.

G-Man was bred by Detlef Kresin in Germany and imported from Jan Kokx at nine months with the help of Thomas Martin.

Yugo vom Fuchsstein – SchH3 (deceased)

We were fortunate to obtain Yugo from Al Bartelson with excellent foundation training. To this day, Yugo is the strongest protection GSD we’ve known. In his first three trials, he scored SchH1 (99), SchH2 (99) and SchH3 (98) in protection, and later 100 points as a SchH3. He also competed in the 2003 USA National Championships

Dina vom Leerburg (Elke) – SchH3 (deceased)

Elke was our first GSD, our start in Schutzhund, and a great family dog. An immensely talented Chucho vom Schloss Guttenberg daughter, she had enough talent to place high-in-trial at local, regional and national events, all with a handler learning his craft. She was high in trial at the 1998 AWDF.
